Commemorating Dr. MLK, Jr. with a Live Discussion

Dear Students:

50 years ago today Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. gave a speech in Washington, DC that changed the world.  Widely considered one of the most stirring works of oratory, both in its rhetoric and performance, this speech is also one that has been far too infrequently seen in its entirety.
Tonight MSNBC will broadcast the speech in its entirety with limited commercial interruption at 8 pm.  Several of the TV lounges in TCNJ residence halls will be set up for screenings. (MSNBC is Channel 59 for basic cable users and on-campus TVs)
Professor Kim Pearson, chair of the African-American Studies Department at TCNJ, will host a live chat about the speech during the screening.
If you can, bring a laptop or tablet and join in the Chat with Professor Pearson while you’re watching the speech for an enhanced experience of this event.
You can access the Chat from a link that will be posted to the Events page of the African-American Studies Department at TCNJ:  http://african-americanstudies.tcnj.edu/events/
I encourage you all to attend the screening together as a communal experience, and to invite your classmates in the other 6 schools at TCNJ (Arts, Business, Education, Engineering, Nursing, and Science) to do so as well.  If you can’t attend a screening in one of the TV lounges in a residence hall, please try to watch it on MSNBC yourself.
With best wishes to all,
BR
