Katrina Notarmaso, senior political science major, has been elected to the Golden Key International Honour Society’s International Council of Student Members. Katrina was elected president of TCNJ’s GK chapter in May and previously held a position as secretary.

The GK Honour Society invites students to join their ranks based on their standing in relation to their classmates: in order to be a GK member, a student must be in the top 15% of their class–and Katrina was no exception to this rule.

“We’re all connected by one thing,” Katrina said, and that one thing is commitment to the GK Honour Society and its three pillars: leadership, academics, and service.

Since joining the GK Honour Society Katrina has had several opportunities to use her intellect and leadership standing to execute community service projects, which are a key practice of the society. One such project involved renovating a home in an urban neighborhood in Georgia in conjunction with Habitat for Humanity.

“We’re all working to improve the lives of others,” Katrina said, in reference to both her TCNJ GK peers and those with whom she will be coordinating on the international council.

In fact, Katrina admitted that she looks forward to a potential career in these sorts of efforts as part of a non-profit organization, helping give other resources they would not otherwise have access to.

“I like the ability to help other people,” Katrina explained about her experience in GK. “And I think it’s also about the opportunity to develop as a person.”

As the newly elected liaison to the international community for Region #1 of GK–which includes Delaware, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and D.C.–Katrina will have many more opportunities to do just that.
