Earth Day is on Wednesday, April 22nd, so Water Watch is celebrating with a whole week of events related to climate change and sustainability. TCNJ’s Humanitarian Yoga, Circle K, Bonner Environmental Team, and Net Impact will be hosting events throughout the week.

Photo Campaign for Change :
Pull out your selfie stick for environmentalism, and post to social media why you want to go green using the hashtag #TCNJEarth. We want everyone to take beautiful pictures throughout campus and to make a statement about the importance of the environment. TCNJ Water Watch will be taking photos in and around the Stud from 12:00- 2:00, but you do not have to stop there. You can post pictures you take all week to Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook!

Humanitarian Yoga Instagram Challenge:
TCNJ Humanitarian Yoga will be running a special yoga class from 11:30- 12:30 behind ABE on Tuesday to celebrate Earth Week. Throughout the week, there will be suggested yoga positions related to the day’s events. Check back each day, and celebrate the Earth with a like-minded community!

Business for Good – People and Planet:
Net Impact will be hosting a professional panel and interactive workshop highlighting socially responsible and sustainable business practices. The panel will feature business professionals from Bloomberg L.P., Johnson & Johnson, and Eastman Chemical Company.

“Greedy, Lying Bastards”:
Exploring the forces and ideologies behind climate change denial, the 2012 documentary Greedy, Lying Bastards exposes the political and economic players who work to misdirect public opinion on the issue. Directed by Craig Rosebraugh, the award-winning documentary will be shown at 12:30 PM in ED 115 on Tuesday. Stop by during meal equiv and enjoy such an excellent and informative film.

Professor Panel on Climate Change:
Oftentimes, taking actions to better the health of the environment can seem the responsibility of large-scale forces. However, there are numerous TCNJ faculty who work every day towards research or other endeavors that impacts the natural world. During the Professor Panel on Climate Change, TCNJ professionals will speak to the approaches taken towards climate change in their field and their own work on climate change. The panel will consist of Dr. Morrison (Biology), Dr. Magee (Physics), Dr. Nordquist (Political Science), Dr. Bates (Sociology), and Professor Pearson (Journalism), and will be moderated by Dr. Madden (Education). The event will take place in P101 at 1:30 on Wednesday.

Sustainability Education Initiative Kick-Off:
From 5:00- 8:00 pm in ED115 on Wednesday, the School of Education and Sustainability Education Initiatives will be hosting a gala where each individual can take part in creating a healthier environment. A number of tables will be set up, each by a local business or organization, to provide a variety of interactive ways to GREEN your life. Furthermore, Dan N. Smith, Director of the Kateri Environmental Center in Wickatunk, NJ will come to provide the keynote speech. Mr. Smith was trained in climate change by Al Gore and has educated the public on changing climate, green technologies, and systems thinking for many years.

Circle K Recycling Information and Dirt Cup Giveaway:
From 12:00-4:00 pm in Alumni Grove on Thursday, Circle K will be having interactive games on TCNJ’s recycling policies, energy conservation, and other environmental topics on which participants can take immediate action to change their behavior. And what’s your prize? A nice cup of dirt- aka pudding with oreo topping!
Mmmmm…. DIRT!!!

Campus-wide Clean-up:
Help us make campus beautiful! To finish up Earth Week, join TCNJ Water Watch in removing trash and recycling from around the campus. At the end of the day, we will weigh the quantities of trash and recycling picked up and post them for everyone to see. Every year, Water Watch removes hundreds of pounds of garbage and recycling from the lakes, waterways, walkways, and roads. This year, we need your help to collect even more. Take part any amount of time from 12:00 PM- 2:00 PM on Friday. Meet in front of the Stud to pick up your gloves, trash bags, and pickers.
