When I first accepted my enrollment offer to TCNJ, I had no idea what I wanted to do. I was interested in psychology as well as a few other humanities related subjects, but I wasn’t ready to commit to one yet and wanted to explore my options. I chose to be Undeclared in the Humanities and Social Sciences program, and this was the best decision I could have made to start off my undergraduate career. I was able to have a slight focus while also having the freedom of completing my Liberal Learning requirements and dipping my toes in everywhere. Despite not having a major, I still felt a sense of community.
I was able to meet other people who chose the same option and share with them my thoughts, worries, and accomplishments. Now, after having declared my major in Psychology, I can confidently say that starting off in the HSS Undeclared Program was the right choice. If I had declared my major in psychology right away, I would have always wondered if I had made the right choice. Being able to try different things and see what I liked best only solidified my current decision and made me appreciate my current major that much more.
