We are thrilled to congratulate Kayla Esquivel for being selected as the recipient of the 2024 Morton Winston Scholarship for Study Abroad, awarded by the Alan Dawley Center for the Study of Social Justice. This scholarship will support Kayla’s semester abroad in Spain, where she will immerse herself in Spanish culture, deepen her language skills, and engage in meaningful social justice work.
Kayla’s time in Spain will be more than just an academic experience. As part of her internship with the Eastern Service Workers Association (ESWA), she will also apply the lessons she’s learned in the classroom to real-world advocacy for immigrants. This hands-on internship will allow Kayla to build on her passion for human rights and social justice by working directly with immigrant communities and helping to provide essential services and support.
The Morton Winston Scholarship for Study Abroad was created to honor Dr. Morton Winston, a beloved Professor of Philosophy at TCNJ who served the college from 1979 until his passing in 2017. Dr. Winston was known for his deep commitment to social justice, ethical action, and leadership on and off campus. This scholarship, named in his memory, offers financial assistance to economically disadvantaged students who demonstrate an interest in human rights and social justice issues, providing financial support to those eager to engage with global communities and broaden their perspectives on important issues while studying abroad.
