Book Talk: “Refining the Common Good: Oil, Islam and Politics in Gulf Monarchies” – 3/3/26 @ 3:30PM

The International Studies Program, Environmental Studies Program, and Politics Forum are proud to host TCNJ Emeritus Professor Miriam Lowi for a presentation on her new book “Refining the Common Good: Oil, Islam and Politics in Gulf Monarchies” on March 3, 2026 at 3:30 pm in ED 113. How has Islam as a set of beliefs and practices shaped the allocation of oil revenues in Arab Gulf monarchies? In turn, how has oil wealth impacted the role of Islamic doctrine in politics? “Refining the Common Good” explores the relationship between Islamic norms and the circulation of oil wealth in Gulf monarchies.
W.I.L.L Monologues – 3/3/26 @ 6:30PM

WILL members and guests will perform excerpts from the Vagina Monologues and individually created Monologues, sharing their stories and experiences in a spoken-word format that provides a meaningful opportunity to uplift voices and foster connections within our community.
Workshop Amandla is Unity: Learning from Women & Non-Binary People’s Anti-Apartheid Work – 3/4/26 @ 12:00PM

Join the Women’s, Gender & Sexuality Studies department and TRIOTA (WGSS Honor Society) on @12pm on March 4 for a special workshop on women, non-binary, trans, and intersex people’s artist & activist work in the struggle against apartheid in South Africa.

School of Humanities and Social Sciences Open House – 3/9/26 @ 3:00PM

This event is open to all TCNJ students and the purpose it to connect with HSS leaders, and learn about academic, professional, and social HSS opportunities. You can meet HSS leaders, such as the Dean of HSS and the HSS Senators, in the Social Sciences Building Atrium on March 9, 2026, at 3:00PM until 4:00PM.
Jury Trials as a “Front Row Seat” to Democracy – 3/10/26 @ 4:30PM

Hon. Jack Sabatino presents “Jury Trials as a ‘Front Row Seat’ to Democracy’” for the Fourth Annual Daryl Fair Memorial Lecture. Hon. Sabatino offers reflections about American jury trials in criminal and civil cases, their historical and constitutional underpinnings, current trends, and observations on how jury trials provide citizens with a ‘front row seat’ to democracy in action.
Rutgers MSW Information Session – 3/11/26 @ 10:45 AM

Admissions specialists will provide an overview of Rutgers’ on-campus and online program options, curriculum, MSW specializations, certificate offerings, dual degree opportunities, and more. Attendees will also gain insight into career paths in social work and have the opportunity to ask questions.

Colonial Caregivers Book Talk – 3/11/26 @ 5:00 PM

The History Department, International Studies Program, and Women in Learning and Leadership are proud to announce Dr. Satya Shikha Chakraborty‘s book Colonial Caregivers: Ayahs and the Gendered History of Race and Caste in British India. In celebration of the book’s release, Dr. Chakraborty will be giving a talk on Wednesday, March 11 at 5pm in the TCNJ Library Auditorium!
Aging In Place: The Experiences of Older People In Prison – 3/18/26 @ 4:00 PM

There are now more older people incarcerated in United States prisons than ever before. In this program, “Aging in Prison: The Experiences of Incarcerated Older People” with speaker Dr. Maggie Leigey of Criminology at TCNJ, we will consider the causes and consequences of the dramatic increase of older people in prison, the many challenges they experience in the carceral environment, and reforms to address this increase and to treat system-involved older people with human dignity and justice. The event will be hosted at The Center for Modern Aging Princeton’s Suzanne Patterson Building (45 Stockton St., Princeton, NJ 08540) on March 18, 2026 at 4:00 PM in a Hybrid format, meaning attendees can come to the event either in person or over a dedicated Zoom Session. Rutgers University School of Criminal Justice Graduate Programs Information Session – 3/25/26 @ 11:00 AM

The Criminology Department is pleased to host the Rutgers University School of Criminal Justice for an information session highlighting graduate study opportunities. This session is designed for undergraduate students who are interested in pursuing advanced degrees in criminal justice.
Representatives from the School will discuss their graduate programs which include MA, Executive MA, and PhD. Admissions officers will also be available to answer questions.
The session will take place on March 25th from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in SSB 321 at TCNJ.
While the event is open to all interested students, it is especially encouraged for Criminology majors and minors.

Amandla is Unity: Learning from the Soweto ’76 Student Uprisings – 2/6/26-3/6/26
“Amandla is Unity” is a multi-site exhibition exploring the 1976 Soweto student uprisings and the power of youth activism in the struggle against apartheid. Featuring rare archival materials, banned publications, posters, photographs, and interactive audio elements, the exhibit invites viewers to reflect on global movements for resistance and collective liberation. The exhibition opens on February 6, 2026 in 111 & 119 AIMM Galleries and Gitenstein Library and will remain open until March 6, 2026. Book Launch! African Feminist Girlhood Studies – 2/6/26 at 12:30PM, TCNJ Intercultural Center in Roscoe West.

Dr. Marla Jaksch’s book, African Feminist Girlhood Studies, featuring articles by WGSS alum Wangare Njuguna and Diamond C. U., and co-edited with Dr. Relebohile Moletsane (University of KwaZulu-Natal) and Dr. Catherine Cymone Fourshey (Bucknell University), is the newest publication in Palgrave Macmillan’s Gender, Development and Social Change series. Jaksch’s African Feminist Girlhood Studies is a groundbreaking transdisciplinary compilation of work (16 chapters, poetry & prose) by humanities and social science scholars, activists, and advocates whose nativity spans the African continent and diaspora. The authors address a wide range of topics in African girlhood history and the ways in which African girls’ activism confronts gendered political, economic, academic, and social challenges in the present-day. ***Students, staff & faculty are welcome! ***

Amandla is Unity: Learning from the Soweto ’76 Student Uprisings Critical Arching Workshop – 2/13/26 @ 12:30PM

All students, staff, faculty, etc. are invited to this hands-on workshop to explore Amandla is Unity. This exhibition centers youth activism in the struggle against apartheid. Participants will be introduced to critical archiving methods and work with reproductions of historical documents and learn to annotate, layer, reimagine, and remix them using a variety of craft materials. You’ll come away having earned tools that you can use in your own research, creative work, or activism. Come join us!

Book Discussion with Wildland Firefighter and Author River Selby – [POSTPONED]

From 2000 to 2010, River Selby was a wildland firefighter. Join us as River discusses their book along with the struggles they encountered and what it means to be a female in a male-dominated industry while trying to find direction at a young age while dealing with trauma. Book Talk by WGSS Alum Dr. Caitlin Wiesner – 11/16/25 @ 5:00PM

Book Talk: Between the Street and the State examines how Black anti-rape organizers critically engaged both the feminist movement against sexual violence and the federal War on Crime between 1974 and 1994. Their multifaceted and adaptable brand of anti-rape advocacy was premised on sustaining the survival of Black women and girls individually and Black communities more broadly. In this way, Black anti-rape activists countered the growing emphasis within the feminist movement on controlling rape through carceral collaborations. Free Book Fair – 10/16/25-10/18/25 @ Various Times

Outside on the lawn in between Bliss Hall and the Business Building, there will be a Book Fair where anyone can come by and acquire second books for free on October 16th, 17th, and 18th! On October 16th and 17th, the Book Fair will be open from 9:30am to 3:30pm, with the 18th taking place during the Ewing Community Fest on TCNJ Campus from 10:00am to 1:00pm in front of Trenton Hall.

Come together with your fellow peers to build your Course Shopping Cart, get advice regarding courses and instructors, and some sweet beverages while we still have them!
