The many chances students have to connect with their peers and professors. Classes are generally on the smaller side, meaning that you often get the chance to interact and create bonds with a wide variety of your peers, from people within your major to those who you meet in non-core electives. This also allows students to form strong professional bonds with their professors, as a low student-faculty ratio means that professors can (and often do) dedicate a lot of time to engaging one-on-one with students to ensure that students within the School of HSS have the support they need to succeed in their academic endeavors.
The fourth floor of the library; it is one of the most peaceful spots on campus. As you ascend the floors of the library, the noise level decreases; on the fourth floor, there is supposed to be little to no noise. Furthermore, foot traffic is extremely low that high in the library, meaning that finding a little nook on the fourth floor means that you can generally work unbothered and undisturbed as long as you want in a calm, peaceful atmosphere. In my opinion, the fourth floor of the library is the best place on campus to lock in and get work done in comfort.
Trust the process! Coming to college can be really overwhelming and the responsibilities of transitioning may seem to pile up very quickly freshman year. But always remember that you are here for a reason and have a ton of resources---from your professors to CAPS to even your peer mentors---to back you up and guide you on your way forward in these new and exciting experiences.
