Blended Learning Courses
School of Humanities and Social Sciences
Dean Jane Wong
Effective May 1, 2019
The College of New Jersey approved the policy on the Development and Approval of Online or Blended Courses on May 23, 2018. Section 1.d. states that the Dean shall approve the course by signature according to the process outlined by the Office of Instructional Design. In addition to the requirements outlined in the policy document, the following considerations are expected for HSS courses:
- Blended learning courses will be used sparingly when the on-line or blended pedagogy is consistent with the course learning objectives.
- Students will be fully informed about the on-line or blended experience of the course in all departmental advertising (e.g., Departmental Advising Newsletter)
- The Department Chair will maximize room use in course scheduling for blended courses. For example, if one class meets on Mondays at 2 pm, then another blended course would be scheduled for Thursdays at 2 pm in the same room.
- Faculty accessibility to students will not be reduced for on-line or blended courses as compared to faculty accessibility during a non-blended course.
