Congratulations to the WE CARE Solar Suitcase Project Team, led by Dr. Jaksch, a professor in our Women’s & Gender Studies Department.
The team has successfully fundraised enough to assemble 3 suitcases to be installed in the Longido District in Maasailand, on Zanzibar, and in Pemba (all in Tanzania). All of these communities have inconsistent electricity and high rates of maternal death in childbirth. These suitcases will literally make a difference between life and death for many women in these communities.
The team will soon have an orientation on how to install and use the Solar Suitcase, so they will be ready to install them in Tanzania during the Maymester course. Thanks to the entire time for your great work: you make us all proud.
