“This [year] is the 50th anniversary of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, a watershed event in attempting to protect minority groups, particularly at the time African-Americans, from discrimination in political participation, economic opportunity and physical integrity rights,” said Dr. Brian Potter, the new Chair of Political Science at TCNJ.
In fact, 2015 will be the 50th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act, which eliminated discrimination on the basis of race in voting booths. The violent events in Ferguson, MO and other police shootings of African-American makes in other US cities should cause us to assess how well we’ve done in the last 50 years.
The lecture will be on Tuesday September 16 at 12:30-1:30 pm in the Library Auditorium
